Summit County Architectural Controls

ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMITTEES

Numerous subdivisions have homeowner associations, which include private architectural control committees responsible for assuring that new construction complies with covenants adopted by the local homeowners' association. The building inspection department cannot enforce these private covenants and the plans examiners do not review plans for compliance with those requirements. It is your responsibility to submit plans to the architectural control committee and obtain their approval. Subdivisions that have informed us of the existence of an architectural control committee are identified in the matrix.

As a courtesy to the homeowners' associations, before issuing a building permit, we request that you inform the subdivision architectural control committee of the proposed project. The building department, however, has no authority to withhold a building permit or Certificate of Occupancy for lack of private architectural control committee approval.
