Dillon Colorado’s New Ecomonic Revitalization

DILLON — The Dillon Town Council gave its new economic revitalization advisory committee the official go-ahead on Tuesday to begin researching various economic development projects.

The projects are part of those recommended by Leland Consulting Group last month as Phase 1 priorities, or those that the town could start with before developing a more in-depth plan for economic development.

• coming up with a land acquisition policy, or methods by which the town can leverage land assets in a partnership;

• developing incentives for new business development;

• aligning plans, budgets, regulations and parking issues to ensure consistency among policy documents and eliminate regulatory gaps;

• and evaluating a housing policy, which could address the regional need for attainable housing.

The advisory committee, which is comprised of eight local business owners or residents, will move forward with more research on the initiatives. Council approves contract for design of Marina Park upgrades Even though the Dillon council won’t know until June whether the town will receive a $200,000 matching grant to upgrade Marina Park, it’s moving forward with the initial design of the improvements. The council approved a $17,500 contract with local architect Jerry Dokken on Tuesday for the design and structural engineering of the new restrooms and picnic pavilion planned at the popular park. Dokken and the town’s parks and recreation committee will meet to determine the size and location of the new facilities within Marina Park. The town is hoping to replace the existing playground and picnic pavilion and add additional restrooms at the park, which is one of the town’s most popular attractions during the summer.

It has budgeted $201,000 for the project and is relying on a Great Outdoors Colorado matching grant to accomplish all three projects. If the town doesn’t win the grant money, Dokken’s design would give the town more accurate cost estimates on at least two components of the project, so the council can decide what to move forward with. Dokken is not contracted to do design work for the new playground because the company that the Town has selected to provide the updated play structures, Big Toys, does all the design and layout on its own
