The Town of Breckenridge instituted its residential parking program

BRECKENRIDGE – The Town of Breckenridge instituted its residential parking program on Monday, and results have been “OK, but not quite as good as the employee one,” according to town spokeswoman Kim DiLallo.

“It’s not one size fits all,” she said of the residential plan that requires homeowners on portions of Main, French, Ridge, Harris and High streets to apply for permits, which allow them to park on assigned areas on the street. “We have to check eligibility as to whether the property they (homeowners) own comes with the ability for a permit.”

DiLallo said homeowners in the designated areas were sent letters in early- to mid-February letting them know the permit system was going into effect. An application must be filled out and turned into the town for permit consideration.

From there, the town’s Community Development Department determines eligibility based on the availability of on-site parking and other factors.

“In most cases, this is designed to help,” DiLallo said. “You would now have ‘assigned parking’.”

Right now, 20 permits have been issued and another 12 have been approved (permits are only issued upon pickup). DiLallo said it was difficult to determine how many people fall under the program because some people are applying even though they might not be eligible.

“There’s sort of a message out there that all the owners of the property should have received that letter,” DiLallo said.

DiLallo said signs are due to go up in the next couple of days stating the new regulations, which require residential permits to park in certain areas
